Learners from all over Cardiff and the Vale came together last night to celebrate completing their Welsh courses for the year at the Cardiff and the Vale Welsh for Adults Centre annual awards ceremony at Aberdare Hall, Cardiff.
All the learners who attended the ceremony, hosted by Siân Lloyd, Wales Today, were presented with a certificate for their success over the year. An award was also given to one learner on every level for their outstanding achievements over the past year. The Chris Rees Tribute Award 2012 was also given to one learner for their excellent dedication towards learning the Welsh language.
Rachel Heath-Davies, Centre Director said: ‘’The annual ceremony is a chance for us to celebrate the success of our learners and thank them for their commitment over the year’’

The Chris Rees Tribute Award – Nick Speed
Nick Speed, the winner of the Proficiency Level Award and the Chris Rees Tribute Award, learnt Welsh because he has many Welsh speaking friends and he thought it was unfair of him to ask them to change their language when socialising just because he couldn’t speak the language. He can now speak Welsh to his friends and he also uses his Welsh every day at work.
Nick Speed said: “I’m extremely proud to have won these prizes. I’ve had loads of fun learning Welsh in the Welsh for Adults Centre over the past seven years. I would like to thank my three excellent tutors – Carole Bradley, Dr Adrian Price and Geoff Wright for all their support over the years”.
As Nick one two awards he left the ceremony with a handful of prizes including a free Welsh course and tickets for the National Eisteddfod along with his two trophies and certificates.
Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan Welsh for Adults Centre is the recognised provider of all Welsh for adults teaching in both Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. Established over 30 years ago, the Centre has an excellent reputation for delivering quality teaching and is inspected by Estyn and funded by Welsh Government. Located in the School of Welsh, Cardiff University, it teaches Welsh to over 2,500 adults each year and has some 70 staff. It offers a variety of courses on every level in loads of locations around Cardiff and the Vale.
Llwyddiant a Dathlu yn Seremoni Wobrwyo Flynyddol Dysgwyr Caerdydd a’r Fro
Daeth dysgwyr o dros Gaerdydd a’r Fro at ei gilydd neithiwr i ddathlu cyflawni eu cyrsiau Cymraeg am y flwyddyn yn Seremoni Wobrwyo Flynyddol Canolfan Cymraeg i Oedolion Caerdydd a Bro Morgannwg yn Neuadd Aberdâr, Caerdydd.
Cafodd bob dysgwr a fynychodd y seremoni , a arweiniwyd gan Siân Lloyd, Wales Today, eu cyflwyno â thystysgrifau am eu llwyddiant dros y flwyddyn ddiwethaf. Derbyniodd un dysgwr o bob lefel gwobr am eu cyrhaeddiad rhagorol dros y flwyddyn ddiwethaf. Rhoddwyd Gwobr Goffa Chris Rees 2012 i un dysgwr hefyd am ei ymroddiad arbennig tuag at ddysgu’r iaith Gymraeg.
Dywedodd Rachel Heath-Davies, Cyfarwyddwr y Ganolfan: Mae’r seremoni flynyddol yn rhoi cyfle i ni ddathlu llwyddiant ein dysgwyr a diolch iddynt am eu hymrwymiad dros y flwyddyn”.

Dysgodd Nick Speed, enillydd Gwobr Lefel Hyfedredd a Gwobr Goffa Chris Rees, Gymraeg achos bod gyda fe nifer o ffrindiau sy’n siarad Cymraeg ac nid oedd yn meddwl ei fod yn deg eu bod nhw’n gorfod newid eu hiaith pan yn cymdeithasu oherwydd nad oedd e’n siarad yr iaith. Mae e nawr yn gallu siarad â’i ffrindiau yn Gymraeg heb ddim trafferth ac yn defnyddio Cymraeg yn ei swydd o ddydd i ddydd.
Dywedodd Nick Speed: “Dw i’n falch iawn i dderbyn y gwobrau hyn. Dw i wedi cael llawer o hwyl yn y Ganolfan yn dysgu Cymraeg dros y saith mlynedd ddiwethaf. Hoffwn i ddiolch i fy nhri thiwtor ardderchog – Carole Bradley, Dr Adrian Price a Geoff Wright am eu holl gymorth dros y blynyddoedd”.
Gan fod Nick wedi ennill sawl categori gadawodd e’r seremoni gyda llond llaw o wobrau yn cynnwys cwrs am ddim a thocynnau i’r Eisteddfod Genedlaethol ynghyd â’i ddau dlws a’i ddwy dystysgrif.
Canolfan Cymraeg i Oedolion Caerdydd a Bro Morgannwg yw’r darparwr cydnabyddedig ar gyfer holl addysgu i oedolion yng Nghaerdydd a’r Fro. Sefydlwyd y Ganolfan dros 30 mlynedd yn ôl ac mae ganddi enw arbennig ar gyfer darparu addysgu o safon uchel. Mae hefyd yn cael ei harolygu gan Estyn a’i hariannu gan Llywodraeth Cymru. Mae’r Ganolfan wedi ei lleoli yn Ysgol Y Gymraeg ac yn dysgu Cymraeg i dros 2,500 o oedolion bob blwyddyn ac mae’n cyflogi dros 70 o staff. Mae’n cynnig amryw o gyrsiau ar bob lefel mewn nifer fawr o leoliadau ar draws Caerdydd a’r Fro.
